Walking the Dog

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Have you noticed the extra little bulges popping up here and there on your body? Do they worry you a little? Does your scale groan when you step on it? That is natures way of letting you know that your health is not quite what it should be. Gentle little hints. It is amazing how we stop looking at our bodies in the mirror once the weight goes on. This is where the dog comes in. The wonderful thing about a dog is that they never tell you about your weight problem. They just simply love you, heavy or not. You, and the food you control, are all that matters to them. Dogs only do a couple of things. They eat, and sleep. They love to run outside but as most responsible dog owners know, when you live in a city you must have your dog on a leash. So this is where they will save you from those little lumps of unwanted fat. Take your dog for a good long walk. Every day or night or morning. It does not matter when. What matters that your do it. So now you are helping to get your dog into good condition and it is helping you do the same. Amazing is it not. No wonder they call dogs mans best friend. One of the great benefits of taking it for a walk is the bond you create. The dog will respond to you. They learn to keep their attention on you if you have the treats. They will avoid other dogs if they know they will get a little treat. Mention treat to our little dog and she goes into high alert. Nothing else matters or gets her attention.

Body Building Workouts Rest

Monday, May 31st, 2010

We are performing these sets to get the most out of our body building workouts, to grow and strengthen our muscles and to see and feel the results. When performing multiple sets in your workout and you want muscle growth it is vital that you get your muscles to overload. If you give the muscle group you are training too much time to rest and recover in between sets then there is no overload of the muscle fiber, meaning no growth.

How long between sets is short?:

No more than two minutes, shorter if possible. This should be an adequate rest period for your mind to refocus and body stay stimulated between sets.
Why should I rest in between sets?:
You do not want to give the muscle you just worked time to rejuvenate, but then again you want to mind to be ready and focused for the next set and be fully recovered from the last set. So shorter time to keep the muscle overloaded but long enough to be refocused on your next set for intensity purposes. Plus keeping the rest periods short keeps the whole workout process in a more condensed time frame, which in turn adds more intensity to your training and that is what you need in your body building workouts, intense, focused, weight training exercise for fast muscle gains.

They try dieting and get on the up and down routine, lose a pound here and gain a pound there. They join a gym but after a few days they get bored, miss a day once in awhile and eventually drop out. A couple we know paid over $5,000. For a weight loss program complete with weekly doses of some kind of pills. They lost a few pounds and then leveled out only to regain the weight again and gave up.

Whatever it is there is something that some people are afraid of when you explain the benefits of walking for the good of their general health. Sleep better. Everyone needs eight hours of sleep each night. If you walk for forty five minutes before you go to bed you will sleep like a baby. Try it. Bodily functions. What is running?

It depends who you ask. Some people would say it’s for exercise. Or a form of sport. Others, a way of getting where you want to be faster. Others still, consider this as something you’d do if you were being chased by a rabies-infected dog.

Constant runners, on the other hand, have a goal in mind. Usually, it’s mainly more of a physical goal; weight loss, exercise, and the likes. However, most runners aren’t fully aware how extremely beneficial running is. Here’s a list:

Maintain and improve health:

-Running does wonderful things to the body like the ff:
-Raises HDL or “good” cholesterol.
-Reduces the risk of blood clots.
-Encourages the use of 50% of the lungs that often goes unused.
-Boosts the immune system by raising higher concentrations of lymphocytes or the white blood cells that fight disease and any other foreign microbes.
-Keeps the heart healthy.
-Increases metabolism (I’ve always envied people with fast metabolisms; now I can boost mine with just running. Alright!).

Benefits of Adding Green Drink Supplements to Your Diet

Friday, May 28th, 2010

We all know the importance of eating our vegetables each day. Most of the time, we fall short on the amount of greens we should consume each day to benefit from them. A green drink is a blend of vegetables, organic grasses, leaves and sprouted grains that balances the body’s pH level with special minerals which alkalize, nourish and energize cells. Supplementing your diet with this powerful supplement will ensure you are getting the right amount of these essential greens each day. The plant ingredients in green help to neutralize acid, balance the alkaline state of blood and tissue in the body. Eating the proper amount of vegetables, fruits and greens each day can do this naturally, but with busy lifestyles, it is almost impossible. Also, many people turn to packaged vegetables which are processed taking away their nutritional value. This can lead to a nutrient deficiency.
Vitamin supplements are often used as a way to supplement the vitamins and minerals lost from not eating enough fresh greens. The problem is that these vitamin supplements are processed, chemically formulated and compressed into pills that are hard for the body to break up and absorb the needed nutrients that these pills are suppose to provide. Dietitians believe that only 15% of vitamin supplements nutrients are actually absorbed before it is passed out of the body. Green Drinks come from only whole food sources so the nutrients are better absorbed by the body.

Why Buy Organic Food

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Organic food could be seen as a fad right now but hopefully it is one that is going to hang around for a long time. Not only is organic likely better for your body, it’s also better for the environment and that is enough reason in itself to go organic. Here are some other reasons to buy organic.

1. It tastes much better – Often organic fruits and vegetables will be smaller or come in strange shapes but that is because they are natural and have not been pushed out of a factory farm. The first time I ate an organic red pepper I realized exactly what I was missing!

2. Organic is free of most harmful chemicals – by eating organic you will greatly reduce the amount of foreign chemicals that build up in your bodies. Often times people will attribute these foreign toxins to us feeling ill, depressed, stressed and tired. In the past years it has become more and more prevalent that people become sick for no apparent reason. While getting food poisoning is pretty obvious, mild cases are harder to diagnose.

3. Organic farming thrives on biodiversity and has a more positive impact on the environment. For organic farming to be successful we need a paradigm shift in thinking. Things like crop rotation, spreading of compost and building strong healthy top soil are now needed. So while these practices produce great food, they are also far better for the local environment. There will be less water run off too so less water is used. And since no chemicals are used, there will not be any chemicals from these crops to drain off and pollute our water sources. At the same time wildlife can often live in harmony with organic crops.

Eating Right and Exercising

Friday, May 28th, 2010

It’s important to stay healthy and maintain a positive lifestyle. Many tips on how to do it are readily available in books, on television and the internet. Eating right and exercising is a great idea, not just because it will make us look good but also for the way it makes us feel. Exercise also lifts the mood and spirit. As aware as we are of the benefits of exercise and a healthy diet, sometimes we are weak and don’t treat our bodies as we should. Sometimes life takes its toll and we feel the need to comfort ourselves. It’s at these times that fatty foods, like ice cream can seem so appealing. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t like ice cream. It’s creamy, rich and delicious. It gets even better when it is covered with whipped cream, nuts and hot fudge. Unfortunately, that great tasting treat is only comforting for a short while, before the guilt sets in. Comfort foods are fine if they are eaten in moderation. If you must indulge counteract the bad effects by eating healthy the rest of the time and getting plenty of exercise.

Nutrients – How Much

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Everybody around you needs the same nutrients – just in different amounts. Why differences? For healthy people, age, gender, and body size are among the factors. Children and teenagers, for example, require much more of some nutrients for growth. Pregnancy and breastfeeding improve the need for some nutrition, too, and for food energy. Simply because their bodies are typically larger, men frequently require much more of most nutrients than women do. How much of every nutrient do you need? Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), established by the Meals and Nourishment Board of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, include daily nutrient recommendations for wholesome Americans based on age and gender.
The DRIs consist of four kinds of recommendations:
- Suggested Dietary Allowances (RDAs) are suggested levels of nutrients that meet the needs of nearly all wholesome people in specific age and gender groups. Consider them as a goal.

- Adequate Intakes (AIs) are similar in meaning to RDAs. They’re utilized as guidelines for some nutrients
that don’t have enough scientific evidence to set firm RDAs.

- Tolerable Upper Consumption Levels (ULs) aren’t recommended amounts. In fact, there’s no scientific consensus for recommending nutrient amounts higher than the RDAs to most wholesome people. Instead, ULs represent the maximum consumption that probably won’t pose risks for health problems for almost all healthy individuals in a specific age and gender group. Why set limits? With the growing use of fortified foods and dietary supplements, especially in big doses, you’re wise to recognize safe upper limits and so avoid adverse reactions.
